Welcome to second grade!! My name is Mrs. Sulla and I am your child’s second grade teacher. I am excited to have the opportunity to work with both you and your child.
I am very excited to be here again at St. Patrick School for my eleventh year teaching second grade! I would like to share a little about myself with you as we begin this year together. I have many years of experience working with children. I am a graduate of Elmhurst College and began my teaching career as a teacher assistant working with children with disabilities. I then worked as a first grade teacher in the Catholic Schools. I was a first grade teacher for four years before I took a leave from teaching to stay at home with my two children. My daughter Lisa is a senior in High School and my son Anthony is a freshman in College. This year also marks my 22nd anniversary to my wonderful husband! St. Pat’s is where God has put me so that I may share my love for children and teaching.
I believe that all children can and want to learn. As a teacher, my main goal is to help your child learn to be an independent, life-long learner. To reach this goal, I will meet your child’s academic level and pace. I will guide him/her as far as possible, planning very carefully so that your child can feel challenged without feeling frustrated.
My teaching style is a child centered approach with active learning through the use of teacher modeling, reading and writing workshop, and math exploration. I do my best to make learning fun! Teaching children to strive to do their best is another goal. I want your child to develop and maintain an, “I can do anything as long as I try my best” attitude. I feel that this attitude fosters risk taking, confidence, and success.
There are many exciting activities and projects planned for this year. I am sure your child will find much enjoyment, happiness, and success in learning. I welcome your support and cooperation as we guide your child through his/her second grade experience.
Second grade is an exciting time of discovery and incredible academic growth. I feel very fortunate to be a part of this magical journey with you and your child.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child. I look forward to an exciting and rewarding year.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Sulla
